AEB, CECA, Unacc, ASNEF, INCIBE, the Civil Guard and the National Police have presented 'Protect yourself, avoiding fraud is in your hands', a plan to prevent cyber scams and promote the digital security of citizens

The campaign, based on videos, audio and brochures with tips to help people operate safely and take action when faced with a cyber scam, will be disseminated through the media and social networks, as well as in offices and branches of financial institutions

The Spanish Banking Association (AEB), CECA, the National Union of Credit Cooperatives (Unacc), the National Association of Financial Credit Institutions (ASNEF), the Spanish National Cybersecurity Institute (INCIBE), the Civil Guard and the National Police have today presented the cybersecurity awareness campaign 'Protect yourself, avoiding fraud is in your hands', with the aim of strengthening the digital security of all individuals. Being protected against cyberattacks is a shared responsibility between the bank and the customer.

The initiative to raise awareness and provide information is based on videos and audio with basic precautions and practical tips to protect personal data and prevent cyber scams. It will be disseminated through digital media in different Spanish media outlets (press, radio and television), as well as through the digital channels of the organisations promoting the campaign. Meta collaborates in the dissemination of content through its platforms.

The campaign will also include brochures that can be distributed at bank branches, and messages to raise awareness will be reinforced on general radio stations.

This campaign is in addition to all the efforts undertaken by the financial sector with training programmes focused on cybersecurity targeting different segments of the population, and constant communications to customers to alert them to the latest fraud mechanisms detected and practical advice on how to avoid, to the extent possible, cyber scams.

The presentation of the campaign, which took place this afternoon at the Casa de las Alhajas in Madrid, was inaugurated by the Chair of the AEB, Alejandra Kindelán. José María Méndez, CEO of CECA, and Alberto Ríos, Director General for Financial Conduct and Banknotes of the Bank of Spain, addressed the financial sector's commitment to secure digitalisation.

Subsequently, the General Secretary of Unacc, Cristina Freijanes, and the General Secretary of ASNEF, Ignacio Pla, discussed the importance of training and prevention in the fight against cyber scams with the head of the Cybersecurity Coordination Unit of the Civil Guard, Juan Salom Clotet, and the head of the Technological Investigation Brigade of the National Police, José García Serrano. The closing speech was given by the Secretary General of INCIBE, Carla Redondo Galbarriatu.

According to the Spanish Centre for Sociological Research (CIS), cyber scams are a growing phenomenon and half of the Spanish population have suffered a scam or attempted scam over the Internet in the past 12 months. Moreover, according to the survey 'Cybersecurity and digital channel usage habits', conducted by Sigma Dos, 60% of Spaniards lack basic cybersecurity knowledge, which means that it is essential to promote training in digital security and the prevention of cyber scams, as part of the necessary public-private collaboration.
