SAREB, the Spanish Banking Association (AEB), CECA and the National Union of Credit Cooperatives (UNACC) have undertaken in this joint statement the commitment to make available to those affected by the volcano eruption on La Palma, free of charge and for as long as necessary, the homes they currently have available in habitable conditions on the island of La Palma and in nearby areas. In this manner, the associated financial institutions intend to contribute, together with the public administrations and other organisations, towards the temporary relocation of people who have been displaced.

The serious situation being experienced by the population of the island of La Palma, following the eruption of the volcano on 19 September, which has devastated many homes, seriously affecting built-up areas and forcing the eviction of residents, requires a rapid and efficient response from society as a whole. With this commitment, financial institutions are joining the efforts being undertaken by civil society and public administrations to attend to the needs of the families and residents of La Palma affected by these serious circumstances with the means available to them. To this end, these entities are currently identifying the number of homes that meet these requirements in order to make them available as soon as possible.

Furthermore, a range of other financial measures, such as compensation advances and preferential financing facilities, may also be made available. We hope that these measures can help to alleviate the damage caused by this disaster. To this end, appropriate coordination mechanisms will be put in place between the financial institutions and the organisations involved to establish access to these homes for the people affected.
