Alberto Aza, CECA spokesperson, took part in the programme 'Capital Intereconomía', on Radio Intereconomía, on the occasion of the International Day of Banks, held on 3 December.

Alberto Aza, together with Elena Mesonero, Managing Director of CACEIS; Gabriela Orille, independent director at Denarius, and Fernando Rodríguez, Director of Business Development at Bizum, discussed on Radio Intereconomía the role of banks in the economy and employment and what a world without them would look like.

'Banks are the circulatory system of the economy because they are responsible for allowing money to flow to households and businesses. Banks shorten lead times and make it possible to fulfil vital goals such as the purchase of a house or a company's international expansion', noted Alberto Aza.

With regard to the future of the sector, Alberto identified the following challenges: the digital transformation, as it has far-reaching strategic implications; process optimisation; the development of new products, from the point of view of the competition; and sustainability, with regard to which he pointed out that 'banks have a fundamental role to play because they have to redirect financing flows towards sustainable activities'.
