During the second half of 2023, Spain will hold the Presidency of the Council of the European Union. This designation comes at a key moment and is conceived as an excellent opportunity to foster public-private collaboration as we seek to move forward on the challenges we face as a country: green transition, digital transformation or social agenda. In this context, CECA has prepared the document Positioning of the CECA sector: contributions and proposals, which we will present at a special event to be held on 21 June in our auditorium located at Calle Caballero de Gracia, 28, Madrid.

A cross-disciplinary colloquium will bring together different points of view in an attempt to advance various key issues on the current regulatory agenda. Gonzalo García Andrés, Secretary of State for the Economy and Business Support, and José María Méndez, CEO of CECA, will engage in a discussion on the contribution of banking to the important role of the Spanish Presidency of the Council of the EU. This will be followed by the presentation of the document Positioning of the CECA sector: contributions and proposals, which will be hosted by Luis Teijeiro, Director of Regulation and Research at CECA.

To conclude the event, a sectoral colloquium will be held on "The financial sector and the Spanish Presidency of the Council", with the participation of prominent representatives of the banking sector and Spanish diplomacy: Francisco Serrano, Chairman of Ibercaja Banco, Carlos Bastarreche, Former Spanish Ambassador to the EU and CECA adviser on European Affairs, and Judith Arnal, professor of the Master's Degree in Banking and Financial Regulation at the University of Navarra, Director of the Bank of Spain, and Senior Research Fellow at Real Instituto Elcano. The event will be moderated by Antonio Romero, Corporate Director of Association Services and Resources at CECA.
