The financial sector, Incibe, National Police, and Civil Guard launch a cybersecurity campaign
AEB, CECA, Unacc, ASNEF, Incibe, Civil Guard, and National Police have presented ‘Protect Yourself, preventing fraud is in your hands,’ a plan to prevent cyber scams and promote the digital security of citizens.
The campaign, based on videos, audios, and brochures with advice to help people operate securely and act in the event of a cyber scam, will be disseminated through media outlets and social networks, as well as in offices and branches of financial entities.
The Spanish Banking Association (AEB), CECA, the National Union of Credit Cooperatives (Unacc), the National Association of Financial Credit Establishments (ASNEF), the National Cybersecurity Institute (Incibe), the Civil Guard, and the National Police have today launched the awareness campaign on cybersecurity ‘Protect Yourself, preventing fraud is in your hands,’ aimed at strengthening the digital security of all people. Shielding oneself against cyberattacks is a shared responsibility between the banking entity and the customer.
The awareness and information initiative is based on videos and audios with basic precautions and practical advice to protect personal data and prevent cyber scams. It will be disseminated through digital formats of different Spanish media (press, radio, and television), as well as in digital channels of the entities promoting the campaign. Meta collaborates in disseminating the content through its platforms.
The campaign will also feature brochures that can be distributed in the branches of the entities, and awareness messages will be reinforced on radio stations in mainstream networks.
This campaign adds to all the efforts made by the financial sector with training programs focused on cybersecurity aimed at different segments of the population and the constant communications to clients to alert them about the latest detected fraud mechanisms and practical advice to avoid, as much as possible, cyber scams.
The presentation of the campaign, held this afternoon at the Casa de las Alhajas in Madrid, started with remarks from the president of AEB, Alejandra Kindelán. The general director of CECA, José María Méndez, and the general director of Financial Conduct and Banknotes at the Bank of Spain, Alberto Ríos, addressed the commitment of the financial sector to secure digitization.
Subsequently, the general secretary of Unacc, Cristina Freijanes, and the general secretary of ASNEF, Ignacio Pla, discussed the importance of training and prevention in the fight against cyber scams with the head of the Cybersecurity Coordination Unit of the Civil Guard, Juan Salom Clotet, and the head of the Technological Investigation Brigade of the National Police, José García Serrano. The closure was conducted by the general secretary of Incibe, Carla Redondo Galbarriatu.
According to the Center for Sociological Research (CIS), cyber scams are a growing phenomenon, and half of the Spanish population has experienced a scam or attempted scam online in the last 12 months. Furthermore, according to the ‘Cybersecurity and Digital Channels Usage Habits’ survey conducted by Sigma Dos, 60% of Spaniards lack basic cybersecurity knowledge, making it essential to promote education in digital security and the prevention of cyber scams within the framework of necessary public-private collaboration.
