The VII CECA Financial Education Conference Analyzes the Impact of Digitalization
On Tuesday, November 22, CECA held its annual Financial Education conference. Once again, in its seventh edition, CECA and its associated entities reaffirm their commitment to financial education in Spain. As in previous years, the closing of this event coincided with the awarding of the Financial Education and Social Action Awards in collaboration with the magazine Actualidad Económica, as recognition of the work and effort made by the entities in both areas.
The new challenges and opportunities arising from digitalization, innovation, and new technologies applied to financial education were the focus of the Conference. Similarly, during the day, there was an emphasis on the need to leverage advancements in this field to provide quality financial education accessible to all segments of society, especially the most vulnerable, removing any barriers that could exclude some individuals.
The opening ceremony featured Mr. Antonio Romero Mora, Director of the Associated Services and Audit Area of CECA, who shared the stage with Mr. Fernando Tejada de la Fuente, Director of Market Conduct and Complaints at the Bank of Spain, and Ms. Gloria Caballero Núñez, Deputy Director of Financial Education at the Department of Strategy and Institutional Relations of the National Securities Market Commission (CNMV), who were the driving forces behind the National Financial Education Plan 2013-2017.
In the European context, Ms. María García Cabeza, Brand, Web & Social Media Manager at Erste Financial Life Park, participated by presenting the newly inaugurated interactive Financial Education museum in Vienna.
In this same context, Mr. Carlos Trías Pintó, Member of the European Economic and Social Committee, presented the best practices currently being applied in financial education across different countries in the European Union.
There was also space to discuss innovation and online financial education initiatives at the European level, thanks to the ITSSOIN project, which was presented at this forum by Ms. Begoña Álvarez García from the Faculty of Economy and Business at the University of La Coruña.
The Once Foundation, the Unicaja Foundation, and Caixa’s Social Action discussed accessibility and new technologies applied to financial education during the round table that concluded this VII Conference.
An Active Participation with a Long Trajectory
Since 2008, with the launch of the First Financial Education Plan (2008-2012), CECA has signed an agreement with its main promoters, the Bank of Spain and CNMV. This agreement was joined by the associated entities, facilitating the creation of a working group that allowed for the exchange of experiences and best practices and the promotion of action plans in this field.
The “Spanish Network for Financial Education,” created by CECA in 2009, aims to be a meeting point for professionals in financial education. It is supported by the website www.rededucacionfinanciera.es, which has been redesigned with a more modern, clear, and easily accessible image, adapted to different mobile devices. This portal, updated daily, contains information on courses, events, conferences, teaching materials, and resources, as well as links to active national and international agents.
