The Spanish Banking Sector Confirms Its Strength with the EBA Stress Tests
The results of the tests highlight the effectiveness of efforts in terms of capitalization, efficiency, and recovery.
The Spanish banking entities analyzed following the methodology of the European Banking Authority (EBA) currently have one of the highest solvency levels in the European Union. As demonstrated in this exercise, the two groups associated with CECA (Criteria Caixa Holding and BFA tenedora de acciones S.A.) would be well-prepared to comfortably exceed the two scenarios proposed (baseline and adverse) until 2018.
The information obtained from this stress test will be decisive for the supervisory review and evaluation process of the European banking industry (SREP) to which all Savings Banks and Banks associated with CECA will be subjected. The goal of the SREP is to ensure that the entities have the capacity and liquidity to address potential risks, and it will once again demonstrate the solvency and adaptability to changing legal and economic scenarios. All CECA-associated entities face this new process from a very favorable position.
