CECA promotes the knowledge of international financial institutions among young people
The sessions supported by CECA are promoted by the Model of Economic Institution (MEI), a non-profit association established by university students aimed at fostering the understanding of economics and international financial institutions within the university community. To continue its mission, a simulation of global economic and financial institutions, such as the World Bank and the OECD, is being held in Madrid from November 2nd to 5th.
Participants, over 100 from Spanish, European, and global backgrounds, will defend their respective delegations’ positions on topics related to current issues such as cryptocurrencies or the global post-COVID economic recovery. This will all be conducted using the MUN (Model United Nations) debate system, reinvented and focused on the economy.
The event began yesterday with the collection of accreditations and the opening ceremony, held at the CECA headquarters. It was attended by Mónica Malo, Director of Communication-External Relations and Sustainability at CECA; Javier Rodríguez Pellitero, Secretary General of the Spanish Banking Association (AEB); Jaime Herrero, Deputy Secretary General of the Bank of Spain; and Carlos Gómez Arnemann, President of BETA Europe. All four organizations collaborate with MEI.
Mónica Malo emphasized that “initiatives like this are an opportunity to create forums for debate and spaces for reflection and dissemination to bring our sector closer to the younger generation,” adding that “education is the foundation of any society, but it is important for young people to acquire not only formal knowledge but also skills and abilities that will allow them to make informed decisions.”
Lucía Priego, General Director of MEI 2021, asserted that “MEI 2021 marks a turning point in the world of university simulations; it is a pioneering event worldwide that aims to promote economic and financial understanding and its relationship with the international political and social landscape.”
Subsequently, the MEI Forum took place, a roundtable where experts and professionals from the institutional financial and economic world shared their knowledge with MEI 2021 participants. This year’s official theme was *And now what? COVID & Economic Institutions*.
The debates of MEI 2021 are scheduled for today and tomorrow. To conclude, the closing ceremony will be held on the 5th at the Bank of Spain, attended by executives from the institution, as well as from other collaborators of MEI 2021, including ASESP (Student Association of Parliamentary Simulations, from the Rey Juan Carlos University in Madrid), IMUNA (International Association of Model United Nations, associated with the Department of Public Information of the United Nations in New York City), and BETA (Bringing Europeans Together Association).
