The XIV Olympiad of the Edufinet Project by Unicaja Awards the Best Works in Financial Education
The winners are Seyla Gómez, from Granada, who took first place; Rafael Ruiz, from Seville, in second place, and Victoria Moriana, from Córdoba, in third.
Five students from high school educational centers in Córdoba, Granada, Huelva, Seville, and Murcia participated today, Friday, in the final of the XIV Financial Olympiad of the Edufinet Project, promoted by Unicaja Banco and Fundación Unicaja.
The five finalists of the XIV Financial Olympiad, a competition that initially had nearly 400 registrants, presented their work conclusions to the jury today. The winners are Seyla Gómez Gutiérrez from IES Severo Ochoa in Granada, who took first place; Rafael Ruiz González from IES Ítaca in Seville, in second place; and Victoria Moriana Jiménez from IES Antonio Gala in Córdoba, in third.
Additionally, there were two honorable mentions awarded to Alejandro Agustín Aragón from IES La Flota in Murcia and Helena Fernández Martín de Soto from IES Puerta de Andalucía in Huelva. Among the participants, a full scholarship to the USA offered by Fundación Unicaja, covering a three-week stay in the United States as part of a cultural exchange program based on family and school coexistence, was also drawn. The winner has been Seyla Gómez Gutiérrez.
Regarding the prizes, the first-place winner received an iPhone SE; the second-place winner, a 64 GB iPad; and the third-place winner, an Apple Watch SE. The winning professors and centers have also been honored.
Of the 387 students who registered for the XIV Financial Olympiad of Edufinet, a total of 307 completed the practical case. In the first part, participants were required to solve a practical case, aiming to determine factors such as where to invest savings, whether it is better to buy a home or rent it, choose which loan is more suitable from two proposed options, and the expenses associated with purchasing a house. Today, the five finalists presented their conclusions to the jury.
Composition of the Jury
The jury that determined the winners included José M. Domínguez, Director of the Edufinet Project; Sergio Corral, General Director of Fundación Bancaria Unicaja; Victoria Romero, member of the Studies Department of Unicaja Banco; Juan Carlos López, Head of Sustainability and Stakeholder Relations at CECA; Adolfo Gil, Director of the Bank of Spain Branch in Málaga; and Isabel Rodríguez, Technical Secretary of the College of Economists of Málaga.
From the collaborating university institutions with Edufinet, the Dean of the Faculty of Business and Tourism Sciences of the University of Huelva, Juan José de la Vega; the Director of Employability and Entrepreneurship for Students at the University of Jaén, Raúl Mata; the Dean of the Faculty of Economic and Business Sciences of the University of Málaga, Eugenio Luque; and Francisca García, professor at UNED, were also members of the jury.
Financial Education Days for Young People
The XIV Financial Olympiad complements the XIV Financial Education Days for Young People, in which, in this course edition, a total of 462 sessions has welcomed 14,250 students from Compulsory Secondary Education (ESO) and High School, from 32 Spanish provinces.
The Edufinet Project has been promoting financial education initiatives for nearly 20 years, currently collaborating with 17 universities and more than a dozen business entities and organizations, in addition to a working team made up of around 80 members who participate in this task selflessly.
Since the beginning of its work, nearly 244,000 people have participated in the various workshops, courses, and conferences it has organized. Meanwhile, the Edufinet Project’s websites have recorded over 19 million accumulated visits, with access from nearly 180 countries.
All of this has made Unicaja one of the most active agents in the fields of education and financial inclusion, exercising its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and commitment to society.
