The New Landscape of Foundations: From Savings Banks to Foundations

The report prepared by CECA entitled “The New Landscape of Foundations: From Savings Banks to Foundations” was presented at the IV Commission of Foundations and Social Work held on March 17. The study reflects for the first time and in detail the new scenario that has emerged following the approval of Law 26/2013, of December 27, on savings banks and banking foundations, within the foundational realm.

Most of the analyzed foundations focus their actions on a specific territorial dimension, either regional or even provincial. Likewise, to address the effects of the crisis, the entities have concentrated their resources in recent years in the areas of social and health assistance, while continuing to promote other fields of action, such as culture, heritage, and financial education. The savings banks, banking foundations, and the other foundations affiliated with CECA are committed to managing Social Work. All entities aspire to be a lever for economic development, social progress, and the financial inclusion of Spanish society. In 2014, the sector allocated more than 675 million euros to Social Work, compared to 647 million in 2013.
