Levanta la cabeza and the financial sector join forces to promote cybersecurity

With the collaboration of AEB, CECA, Unacc, and ASNEF, a series of spots will be broadcast on TV, radio, and social media to help identify and prevent cyberattacks.

In Levanta la Cabeza, we are launching in October, Cybersecurity Month, and following the celebration of Financial Education Day focused on “Education for Safer Finances,” a new campaign to raise awareness in society about digital security focused on preventing and avoiding cyberfraud. This will be through a series of spots that will be disseminated on the channels of Atresmedia Group, which will particularly focus on identifying communications that contribute to attempts at fraud against users through digital means.

This campaign aims to strengthen the digital security of users who may be targeted through various techniques such as ‘phishing’ or ‘smishing’, which arrive through email, SMS, or instant messaging to steal information by sending a link that redirects to a fraudulent site where the user enters their credentials; ‘vishing’, through deceptive calls that seek to persuade customers to provide their access credentials or personal data, or even ask them to install remote control programs on their devices, or ‘QRshing’ which, through QR codes when scanned, redirect to a fraudulent webpage from which confidential information can be gathered.

‘Malware’ is a malicious code that infects the device and can be disguised in a file or installed through a illegitimate application. These attacks are highly industrialized for obtaining sensitive information intended to carry out fraudulent operations.

In collaboration with financial sector associations – AEB (Spanish Banking Association), CECA, Unacc (National Union of Credit Cooperatives) and ASNEF (National Association of Financial Credit Establishments) – this initiative aims to inform users about the different forms of cybercrime, so that, with simple and practical advice, they can avoid them. The channels of financial institutions are secure for operations (official websites, banking apps, phones) and one should always access through official sites, never through links received in messages, so attention must be paid to all communications received. In this way, Atresmedia’s movement emphasizes the use of official channels of financial institutions (websites, apps, phones, …) to make communications and operations securely.

It is crucial that the client is prepared to detect false communications and act to avoid compromising their personal information, so attention must be paid to all communications received. Levanta la Cabeza seeks to encourage safe behavior by following basic advice in case of receiving a communication, even if it seemingly comes from a banking institution.

Raising awareness among the population on cybersecurity practices is important in a society where a large part of the users of financial institutions carry out operations and management through websites and apps with very sensitive data. To this end, it is necessary to suspicion any communication requesting confidential data such as keys or passwords or adding an element of urgency. In such cases, one should ignore the communication and use the official phones and websites, visit an office or request information through their app to verify the authenticity of these requests.

How to act in the face of a possible cyberattack

To avoid being a victim of a cyberattack, users must always keep in mind a series of warnings. Financial institutions will never ask for access keys, card numbers, and CVC, nor security codes to sign operations nor other confidential data through a call, email, or instant messaging. If the communication seems suspicious, do not click on any links nor download attachments, as they may contain ‘malware’ and infect the device. In case of any doubt, communication should be interrupted and contact should be made with the institution through official channels.

Likewise, when the customer believes they have been a victim of information or money misappropriation, they must immediately contact the banking institution to mitigate the possible consequences as much as possible. It is important to file a report as soon as possible with the relevant authorities.

All of these contents will also be covered on Atresmedia’s social media and Levanta la cabeza’s profiles on Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook, as well as on this website, conceived as an open, collaborative, and reference platform in the face of digital transformation.
