CECA with the Internet Day Steering Committee

On Tuesday, May 17, the Internet Day 2023 was celebrated, a global and international day whose main objective is to promote the possibilities offered by new technologies to improve the standard of living of citizens while respecting their rights and to highlight the opportunities provided by using the Internet.

This year’s central theme is “Digital Citizenship, rights, and opportunities,” understood as “the set of skills that enables citizens to access, retrieve, understand, evaluate, and utilize, create and share information and media in all formats, using different technological tools, in a critical, ethical, and creative manner. It encompasses the values, attitudes, skills, knowledge, and critical understanding necessary to navigate responsibly through an ever-evolving digital world and to adapt technology to our needs rather than letting ourselves be dictated by it.”

During the event, the Internet Day Steering Committee, composed of 62 civil society organizations, including CECA, will present the “Digital Citizenship Manifesto” with ten measures to promote digital citizenship for all individuals without leaving anyone behind.

The prestigious personal trajectory award will also be presented this year to Jesús Rubí Navarrete, whose work has been primarily developed within the Spanish Data Protection Agency in the context of a constant evolution of economic activities and technological innovations, focusing on the right to data protection. His professional activity has centered on seeking realistic solutions that have contributed to a continuous improvement of privacy rights with transparency and guarantees for citizens.

Following this, the 24 statuettes will be awarded to the winners of the Internet Awards 2022, who will deliver their acknowledgments in a tweet-speech. The event concludes with awards for school competitions where works from primary and secondary school children and their teachers have been presented.

From the CECA sector, as members of the Internet Day Steering Committee, we celebrate this milestone at the 2023 award ceremony, where our Director of Business Development and Support for Technological Services, Julio César Fernández, presented one of the awards to Pablo Dúo Terrón, a teacher at CEIP Príncipe Felipe in Ceuta, for “CreIA lo que veIA.”
