III National Congress on Banking Law

The Madrid Bar Association will hold a new edition of the National Congress on Banking Law on May 25 and 26, a benchmark meeting for professionals in the sector that has established itself as a key forum for debate and reflection on the transformation of the financial sector and, in particular, the constant regulatory evolution. This edition brings together more than 50 experts in banking matters: authorities, university professors, senior executives, managers of credit entities, representatives of public institutions, and lawyers specializing in the field who will provide their insights on the future of the legal financial sector and its relationship with users, public administrations, and companies.

The various round tables will address significant and current issues such as supervision, compliance, and corporate governance in the banking sector, the digital euro, the latest developments in crypto assets, blockchain, and legal security in banking, the purchase and management of NPL portfolios and Directive 2021/2167, legal challenges for credit entities, various legislative projects and recent case law, corporate restructuring, or the role of banking creditors and institutional financing for sustainable economic and social development. Among the attendees is Pedro Giner, head of Legal Advice at CECA, who will participate in the first round table of the day on May 25: “Supervision, compliance, and corporate governance in the banking sector,” alongside Eduardo Ávila, Head of Global Supervisory Relations at BBVA, Ana Burgos, lawyer of the Division of Suitability and Registration of Senior Officials at the Bank of Spain, Lucía Calvo, director of Regulatory Compliance, Regulation, and Corporate Governance at Bankinter, Ignacio Caparroso, head of Regulation at FROB, Pedro Cadarso, advisor on Prudential and Supervisory Matters at AEB, moderated by Carmen Alonso, former counselor of the Bank of Spain, professor of Commercial Law, and chair of the Commercial Law section of the General Codification Commission. Additionally, Fernando Conlledo, Secretary General of CECA, will participate in the second lecture on Friday, May 26.
