Podcast Social Work: Virtual Glasses to Eliminate Barriers in Healthcare

Disruptive technologies also have a positive impact on the social inclusion of people with intellectual disabilities by improving the doctor-patient relationship. Discover how in the new podcast.

It may seem contradictory to use a technological device between doctor and patient to eliminate barriers, but the truth is that the use of 3D glasses for people with intellectual disabilities has proven to be very positive in reducing their fear of healthcare personnel.

Virtual reality and augmented reality are part of the project “Healthcare Desensitization” by the Fundación Caja Navarra, which aims to promote social inclusion of this group that shows a particular aversion to doctors and nurses. “These technologies are contributing very positively,” asserts María Aragón, a nurse at the Isterria Special Education Center in Navarra, in the new episode of Ideas con Valor, a school created by the Foundation where the problems that arise during medical visits were identified by the student.

Its purpose is to anticipate as realistically as possible what is going to happen. “Through 3D glasses, students are prepared for the visit to the nurse’s office and the procedures that will take place, allowing them to understand what will happen, giving them the time they need to assimilate it so that when the moment arrives, it will be a positive experience […] because there is nothing as powerful as experiential learning.”

This is another success story of the social work of the Confederación Española de Cajas de Ahorros (CECA), which only last year invested 800 million euros in actions for vulnerable groups, educational, cultural, environmental, and sports initiatives, among others.

Discover the positive impact of the “Healthcare Desensitization” project on these young individuals through the insights of family members and staff from Fundación Caja Navarra and the school in the latest episode, available on Ivoox, Spotify, and Apple Podcast.

This section aligns with two forums. Last Thursday, May 31, we celebrated the VII edition of the Ideas con Valor forum, where a group of twenty experts and managers shared investment proposals to assist in financial decision-making. In November, the VI edition of the Blockchain & Cryptoassets forum will take place, where experts and entrepreneurs will also share value proposals for companies in the so-called decentralized economy. We will keep you informed.
