Positioning of the CECA sector: contributions and proposals, before the Spanish Presidency of the Council of the EU

Positioning of the CECA sector: contributions and proposals, before the Spanish Presidency of the Council of the EU

In the second half of 2023, Spain will hold the Presidency of the Council of the European Union. This appointment comes at a key moment and is conceived as an excellent opportunity to advance the challenges we face as a country—green transition, digital transformation, and social agenda—by fostering public-private collaboration. In this context, CECA has prepared the document Positioning of the CECA sector: contributions and proposals, which we will present at a special event on June 21 at our auditorium located at Calle Caballero de Gracia, 28 in Madrid.

Through an interdisciplinary colloquium, various points of view will be brought together to advance key issues on the current regulatory agenda. Gonzalo García Andrés, Secretary of State for Economy and Support to Business, and José María Méndez, General Director of CECA, will engage in a dialogue discussing the contribution of banking in relation to the significant role of the Spanish Presidency of the Council of the EU. Following this, the presentation of the document Positioning of the CECA sector: contributions and proposals, will be conducted by Luis Teijeiro, Director of Regulation and Studies of CECA.

To conclude the event, a sectoral colloquium titled “The financial sector before the Spanish Presidency of the Council” will take place, featuring prominent representatives from the banking sector and Spanish diplomacy: Francisco Serrano, President of Ibercaja Banco, Carlos Bastarreche, former Spanish Ambassador to the EU and adviser to CECA on European matters, and Judith Arnal, Professor of the Master’s in Banking and Financial Regulation at the University of Navarra, Adviser to the Bank of Spain, and Senior Research Fellow at the Real Instituto Elcano. The moderation will be led by Antonio Romero, Corporate Director of Associative Services and Resources of CECA.
