The Digital Divide is Not Only Present Among the Elderly: Gen Z Believes Their Bank Will Send Them a WhatsApp
According to the Cybersecurity Survey and Digital Channel Usage Habits conducted by CECA, 28% of young people aged 18 to 29 believe that their banking entity can contact them through unofficial channels to request personal data.
Elderly individuals are not the only ones susceptible to falling into the trap of providing their banking data via mobile, as reflected in the Cybersecurity Survey and Digital Channel Usage Habits conducted by CECA.
According to the data collected, 57% of young people aged 18 to 29 acknowledge having limited knowledge about cybersecurity, and 28% claim to believe that their bank may request personal information via unofficial channels such as email, SMS, or WhatsApp.
Despite recommendations, only 33.2% of those under 30 heed the advice of their entity, while more than 66% of those over 65 do so.
To protect themselves from threats, CECA recommends, in line with the recently signed agreement with INCIBE, to think twice and not respond to any suspicious communication, act calmly, maximize precautions, and analyze the intent of the message, not to rely on appearances, check the sender, subject, links, and attachments, and examine the wording of the text.
